Measuring What Matters
The mitigation of risk to human safety, security of assets and critical infrastructure, along with assurance of business continuity is a complex and sometimes costly enterprise. As a deliberate exercise, measuring outcomes and impacts of both strategic and tactical solutions can in itself be a part of the larger risk mitigation plan.
Canpro has worked with a range of public and private sector clients to benchmark current practices against industry norms, measure progress over time and develop indicators of success. This includes examining policies, procedures, strategies, activities, resources and systems.
Intelligence Reporting
Domestic and international corporations need timely, accurate and relevant information on new, emerging and unanticipated threats that could negatively impact their operations, assets or personnel. Information alone does not benefit decision-making. It must be analysed, interpreted, informed and actionable.
Threats could be targeted towards an industry, client, or specific locale, or be vicarious. They can include sudden changes in government policy, political upheaval, cause-motivated political/cultural groups, organized crime groups, or influences from neighbouring states. Impacts of such threats incorporate risks to human safety, restrictions on supply lines and travel, unanticipated regulatory requirements, extortion and demand for facilitation payments.
To help clients better mitigate risk and ensure success, Canpro Risk Solutions has an internal unit to support clients with both strategic and tactical intelligence unique to their industry, location and specific requirements.
Strategic intelligence extends to political, economic, social and geographical threats specific to a country or district. The purpose is to help inform strategic decision making with current, verifiable, relevant information identifying early warning indicators, trends and concerns that meets the explicit, existing needs of the client. Strategic intelligence may relate to events, issues, identifiable groups or individuals. It seeks to identify origins or causative factors behind threats, their anticipated evolution, outcome and what this means to the client, their industry and the local they operate within.
Tactical intelligence, based on identification and analysis of threats and the specific risks they pose help inform operational risk mitigation measures. This includes drafting of security policies and procedures, decisions on expansion or local investment – globally and locally. Tactical intelligence will help inform responses to targeted attacks on staff, suppliers, transit routes, protection of site information and intelligence.
